2018 Annual Symposium Abstract Submission

Abstract Submission and Travel Award Applications Are Now Closed

Due to the large number of abstracts submitted, the Organizing Committee has decided NOT to re-open abstract submission at this time. Once we have determined how many posters have been accepted and assessed the capacity of the room where poster sessions will be held, we may decide to re-open submission for poster abstracts only. A decision on this will be e-mailed to all people in the IAVS database and also announced here, on the IAVS Facebook page, and on the @iavs2018 Twitter feed.

Travel Award applications will NOT be re-opened.

Those who submitted abstracts or Travel Award applications by the deadline can expect to receive decision letters during the week beginning 2 April.

Abstract Submission and Travel Award Applications

The deadline for submission of abstracts and travel award applications is 5 March, 2018 at 11:59 PM (eastern US time). If you are planning to apply for a Travel Award, please read the page on Travel Awards first and make sure that you meet the eligibility requirements and have the required documents at hand. If you are a student and you would like your talk or poster to be considered for a Student Presentation Award, there is a box that you should check during abstract submission.

The abstract text is limited to a maximum of 400 words. We recommend that you type your abstract in a word processor and then copy and paste it into the submission form. Once you have submitted an abstract, you will be able to come back and edit it as often as desired, up until 5 March. In order to assist in placing your presentation within the program, you may choose two topics that characterize your presentation. If you think that your presentation may fit into one of the Special Sessions, you can choose that session as one of your topics.

The "One Talk Per Person" Policy

In order to allow as many participants as possible to present talks, the Organizing Committee has decided on the following policy, which essentially limits each participant to be the presenter of only one oral presentation at the symposium.

  1. A person may only be the presenter for ONE talk at the symposium, whether it’s in a special session or a regular session. The only exception to this rule is that if the original presenter of a talk is unable to attend, a person who is already presenting a talk may also present the talk on behalf of the absent person. The symposium co-organizers must be informed in advance if this occurs.
  2. Persons presenting a talk are also permitted to present a poster.
  3. Poster presenters are only permitted to present one poster.
